The
Dive Connection football team was formed in January 2005 and
in our first season, entered a team into the ROKO Tuesday
night 5 a side leagues in Portsmouth.
At that early stage, we were formed purely from staff and
customers from the dive centre. As time progressed, our team
has evolved and although some of the early players remain,
we also have non-divers in the team who have "been signed"
for their footballing skills.
Initially pitched into Division 1 having entered half way
through the season, the TDC team found the going tough, and
a run of losses ensued.
Being as we were, relegated into Division 2 in the Spring
of 2005, the opposition we faced allowed us to play games
in which we were more evenly matched. Nonetheless, come the
Summer 2005 season, we were again relegated to Division 3.
By now we had a regular team and our performances were improving.
At the end of the Summer 2005 season, we held our own to stay
in Division 3 into the Winter 2005 season.
Often playing in icy and freezing conditions, the TDC team
turned out week in and week out, but inevitably, we slipped
again to Division 4 for the Spring 2006 run. At this point,
the team faced some changes, with previously regular players
dropping out and others being drafted in. Many games in this
season were played with the minimum of 5, allowing no substitutes.
This probably contributed to another slide into Division 5
for the Summer 2006 season.
With another rush of new players, we were now turning in winning
performances and although we almost won the league with a
great effort from all the team, we opted to stay in Division
5 to ensure we met like-minded opposition.
The first part of the Autumn 2006 season saw us lose almost
every game, but win every game in the second half of the season,
to end up second. We are now playing in Division 2 following
a re-organisation of the Tuesday leagues.
The team TDC philosophy is that we are there to have a good
game of football and winning is secondary - which doesn't
mean that we don't play to win! We also play other 5 a side
games and also 11 a side games against kids charity Motiv8. |
